2003 WebCartoonists Choice Awards Nomination Round
The 2003 WebCartoonists Choice Awards are in the nomination stage. I've got a few strips I'm nominating so far, but I still have no nominations (or there are slots available) in several categories. For your pleasure, my CCA nominations thus far: Outstanding Newcomer: Doubt It -- I rarely stumble across new comic strips. When I do, I usually hate them. I like the art style here. Outstanding Art: Supermegatopia -- I really like the Eastman/Laird TMNTesque artwork here. Lots of heavy blacks. Gaming Guardians -- I like WebTroll's work. Outstanding Website Design: Combustible Orange -- It's orange. I like orange. Outstanding Character Design: The Amazing Cynicalman! -- Matt uses stick figures, yet with only one or two strokes of the pen, you can instantly tell each character apart. Outstanding Use of Color: Gaming Guardians -- Like I said, I like the WebTroll. MONSTER Comics -- Really nice watercolor/marker effects. Sluggy Freelance -- Pete's coloring skills in the past few months have increased tenfold. Outstanding Gaming Comic: PE(aott) -- It actually featured gaming. Dork Tower -- The main characters actually play games. Absurd Notions -- Again, people acutally playing games. I almost didn't nominate this, but it looks like AN is restarting. Outstanding Gag Comic: Player Versus Player/PVP -- Damn funny stuff. Sexy Losers -- Funniness, sexified. Outstanding Science Fiction Comic: Zortic -- I don't read many sci-fi themed comics. Mark's Zortic is the only one I seem to keep coming back to. Freefall -- I've only recently discovered this one. It's not on my daily list yeat, but I've come back to read it several times. Outstanding Superhero/Action Comic: Gaming Guardians -- It really belongs here in the "action" category, not the "gaming" category. Supermegatopia -- There is no better superhero comic strip online. But I'd like to hear from you. I don't read as many online comic strips as I'd like to -- mainly because I don't know about many. Here's a chance for my readers to suggest a comic strip I haven't read for one of my nomination slots. Let me know what comic strip you'd like me to look at, where it's at, what category you think it should fit under, and why you think it should fit under that category. I'll check out a good sampling of each comic suggested and I might add it to my list of nominations, but this nomination round closes on May 18th. Remember, I can nominate up to three in each of the categories. I've got my three nominations locked in for Outstanding Use of Color and Outstanding Gaming Comic. A full list of categories can be found at www.ccawards.com/categories.htm . And if you'd like to help spread the word about PE(aott) -- now is a great time. E-mail a cartoonist and tell them about Planet Earth (and other tourist traps) and how you think it should be nominated for Outstanding Gaming Comic. Thanks! Posted at May 14, 2003 12:09 PM ![]() For art, I think the best one I've seen is one of my favorites, Eversummer Eve. http://www.eversummereve.com . Lovely manga-ish art style, and great character designs to boot. I wish I could draw like that... I read too many webcomics. Posted by: Sosiqui at May 14, 2003 01:03 PM |
