more on confessions and 2guys
I've been searching for a solution for the yellow text problem without any firm solution. (Basically, I can use PHP to generate images, but for some reason when generating text, it all comes out transparent yellow.) I've contacted Dreamhost support a few times, but I'm still no closer to determining how to make my black text... black. I've posted on various message boards where PHP programmers converse, but nobody has responded. (I've even contacted the folk who created the GD library. They should respond by Montag.) But then I realized something -- of the few people who seem to have this problem, when they mentioned what server they're using, it's all linux. I let Ciaran and.... Wormwood, I think (maybe someone else... I know I showed WW the code, but can't recall if he tested the code), copy the code onto their servers. The text came out black. Ciaran and whomever, could you let me know if you tested this on linux servers? If you guys were running on windows servers, I might need to find a new webhost. This of course would totally suck for me. Despite calling them "Dreamhose" on occasion, I've been with them for several years. So I guess this is a call to all you who know of good, affordable web hosting companies that run windows servers. If you know of any, go ahead and reply to this news bit. Until I can get this straightened out, 2guys and confessions strips are still on a holding pattern for updates. But when they get updated... LOOK OUT! Posted at April 2, 2004 11:51 AM ![]() Oh, and you've inspired me to take a look into it again. Sorry I haven't been doing that lately. I'll see if I can work out what's wrong. Posted by: Ciaran at April 2, 2004 11:55 AMCan you do a phpinfo on the server and let me see the results? I'd be interested to see if there's anything there that could help... Posted by: Ciaran at April 2, 2004 12:01 PMMy server is running Linux as well, and it worked perfectly fine for me. Maybe the bug only occurs with the bundled version of gd you're using? There are various other differences between my installations and yours that might be relevant. For example, my build options include "--enable-gd-native-ttf". (this stuff was preinstalled - I haven't gotten around to really looking into it all, reinstalling etc. even though it would probably be a good idea for security reasons) Posted by: Fuzzpilz at April 2, 2004 04:45 PMI was notified yesterday that is something with the bundled version of GD Dreamhost is using. See where the freetype linkage is "with TTF library"? Well, that's the buggy version. It should be "with Freetype". I've notified Dreamhost and now I'm waiting for them to let me know if they are going to recompile PHP (and when). If they aren't going to do so for several weeks or some other abyssmally long time, I'm going to have to find out how to compile my own version. Gah. Server side stuff. Posted by: cartoonlad at April 9, 2004 04:20 PMLooks like I get to spend time Sunday on compiling my own version of php... Last time I tried this, it didn't work that well. We'll see what happens this time. Posted by: cartoonlad at April 11, 2004 12:17 AM |
