Return from the SDCC!
Wow -- that was amazing. Thanks to all you who dropped by the booth to say hello and those of you who helped out with the "help send Thomas to San Diego and get him back home" thing. I had such a great time (and, I hope, gained several new readers). While in San Diego, I met and chatted with several people that I thought I'd never get a chance to meet -- Scott McCloud, Stan Sakai, Bill Plympton... But there's one person that I met that was more important to me than any of those. His name is Michael, and he used to read Planet Earth (and other tourist traps).

Michael is one of those people that read the comic strip, then back earlier this year when annoying real life things happened that caused the strip to go through an agonizing length of missed updates, he got fed up and left. This thing happens, not just to me, but to other cartoonists. When this happens, I rarely hear about it. For each e-mail I got from readers during that time, I'm guessing I can multiply that number by several dozen people who just left without saying a word. But I spoke to Michael and he said he'd come back and check out the strip and see how it's doing.

That was one of the greatest moments at the booth -- I had a reader return.

I'll be posting more of my SDCC trip report over at The Nice's main site later this week and pointing y'all to it when it's up. I'm off to finish up today's strip (we got back home late on Monday instead of Sunday, like I hoped), so for now I'll leave you with what I told everyone that stopped by our booth. "If you like our comics, please tell a friend."
