Something Awful
Something Awful linked to Supermegatopia (SMT) as part of their regular "Awful Link of the Day" feature yesterday, which is strange because Supermegatopia is a rather good site. Readers of PE(aott) may remember SMT from last year's April Fool's comic swap -- when I drew SMT's name out of the big top hat, I had no idea how I was going to do something that was good enough to be on SMT's site. Sure, SMT is a furry strip featuring more breasts that all you shakers of sticks could care to shake sticks at, but it's also a damn good site. The artwork is like the early Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, back when Eastman and Laird helped to create the black and white glut of the mid-80s. It's good stuff.

There were rather odd things in the SA critique/character assassination of SMT. Of the two bits of artwork accompanying the review, one was fan art and the other was a random panel from one of the storylines. Next to that random panel, the SA goon writes "I have absolutely no clue what the hell is going on [here]." Uh, yeah. I can see how grabbing a random image from a storyline and trying to make sense of it without any context might be a bit confusing. I have this image of the reviewer ducking into a movie theater about halfway through the film, watching for thirty seconds, and then complaining about how hard it is to follow the story.

The other thing that caught my eye was the comment about how "...there sure seems to be a lot of animal sex on [supermegatopia.com], as well as a busy community people [sic] who like to draw rabbits with penises." It's a bit strange to see Something Awful complain about something like beastiality and bad artwork created by "community people". They must've thought they had that market covered.

As predicted, the various Special Olympics bronze-medal winners over at SA invaded the SMT message forums to throw their feces all over the place. I suspect in a day or so, they'll be distracted by some other shiny object to urinate on. Or perhaps they'll just get bored of it and go back to wasting hours adding text to random images stolen from images.google.com with their pirated copies of Adobe Photoshop.

My apologies to any Special Olympics bronze-medal winners that were offended by being compared to people who read Something Awful. I am deeply, deeply sorry.

Maybe they think the comic is awful not because of they don't understand storylines they haven't read, but because it's a furry strip featuring more breasts that all you shakers of sticks could care to shake sticks at.
